The AJC’s J.D. Capelouto On Public Feedback To Atlanta City Council’s Proposed Training Facility

A proposal for an expansive police and firefighter training complex has drawn sharp opposition from community members. There’s concern about the environmental and historical significance of the Old Atlanta Prison Farm where the facility is intended to go, and the community has submitted around 17 hours of public comment ahead of a possible vote. Supporters say the improved facilities are necessary to attract and retain the most qualified individuals with a state-of-the-art centralized campus. Atlanta Journal-Constitution journalist J.D. Capelouto has been covering the story and joined Morning Edition to discuss what he has learned.
