These days we all have more ways to get our voices out. And from all parts of the political spectrum, we’re told to reject what’s called political correctness, cast aside our fear of speaking loudly and attack the opposition.

But does all that volume cover up the fear of what might happen if we really listen to each other?

Michael Thurmond is DeKalb County CEO, former Georgia labor commissioner and former chair of the state Legislature’s black caucus. He was also the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate in 2010.

He joined Denis O’Hayer on “Morning Edition” for a conversation all about the value of listening.
