The Witches Of ‘Wicked’ Discuss The Award-Winning Musical

“Wicked” takes place before Dorothy — from the “Wizard of Oz” — arrives in the Emerald City and gets her ruby red slippers.
The Grammy- and Tony Award-winning musical is onstage now at the Fox Theatre.
Talia Suskauer plays Elphaba (whom we come to know in the “Wizard of Oz” as the “bad witch”), and Allison Bailey portrays Glinda (aka “the good witch.”) They both stopped by “City Lights” to discuss the play, along with the serious issues it tackles.
The show is the untold story of the witches of Oz.
Elphaba and Glinda were once friends, before they became enemies. The musical takes you along their journey as roommates at Shiz University and how their differences in popularity brought them together.
Although this musical has a lot of upbeat and fun tunes, it also touches on serious themes of fascism, discrimination and bullying.
“It’s very important that a lot of children and adults come to see the show because bullying doesn’t stop when you leave school. It continues into adulthood and beyond,” Suskauer said.
The musical is on stage at the Fox Theatre now through Nov. 17.
