‘The Wickhams: Christmas at Pemberley’ At Theatrical Outfit Continues Jane Austen’s Story
“The Wickhams: Christmas at Pemberley” continues the story of Jane Austen’s original “Pride and Prejudice.”

Mr. and Mrs. Darcy are back in the grand Pemberley estate at Theatrical Outfit in “The Wickhams: Christmas at Pemberley.”
The “Pride and Prejudice” storyline continues in the basement of the Darcys’ home with the main focus on the servants. Don’t worry if you can’t remember the Jane Austen book from your 10th grade English class, director Carolyn Cook has reassured us that you don’t need to know anything about “Pride and Prejudice” to enjoy the play.
This performance is also a companion piece to Theatrical Outfit’s 2017/18 performance of “Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley.”
“It is not only possible to understand the narrative of this play without having seen ‘Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley,’ it is possible to understand the narrative of this play without ever having read ‘Pride and Prejudice’ or any other novel by Jane Austen,” Cook said.
Cook and actor Lauren Boyd, who portrays Cassie, spoke to “City Lights” about the show in which playwrights Lauren Gunderson and Margot Melcon continue the story of Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice.”
“This play is set around Christmas, Dec. 22 through the 26, which goes on to ‘Boxing Day.’ That’s the traditional British celebration on the day after Christmas when it’s the servant’s holiday,” Cook said. “It’s a sort of downstairs/upstairs play, very Downton Abbey-esque with how the story showcases the lives of the servants. It includes visits from people upstairs in the great house, and if you’re familiar with ‘Pride and Prejudice’ or ‘Miss Bennet,’ you will recognize those characters.”
The play will be performed at The Balzer Theater at Herren’s Nov. 27 through Dec. 29.
