Atlanta (January 29, 2024) – To better provide audiences with trusted, independent 2024 national and local election coverage and commentary, WABE, Atlanta’s choice for NPR and PBS, is expanding its already robust slate of radio, TV, podcast, and digital programming and launching dedicated digital hubs to deliver independent coverage during the 2024 national, state, and local elections.
As part of WABE’s expansive 2024 Election, the popular podcast Political Breakfast, featuring WABE Morning Edition host Lisa Rayam along with Republican strategist Brian Robinson and Democratic strategist Tharon Johnson, now drops twice a week with new episodes each Tuesday and Thursday, while the Gold Dome Scramble podcast with WABE political reporters Rahul Bali and Sam Gringlas returns on Fridays. Both podcasts are available on the WABE and NPR Podcast Networks, with segments airing on WABE-FM 90.1.
WABE has also debuted a dedicated “Under the Gold Dome 2024” Digital Hub, with all the latest news from the 2024 Georgia legislative session and has plans to unveil a “2024 Election Digital Hub” on WABE.org in March to provide political coverage during the 2024 national, state, and local elections to inform and empower voters.
At a time when local news coverage is limited, WABE remains committed to maintaining one of the strongest newsrooms in the Southeast & collaborating with other news providers to ensure trusted, quality, fact-based journalism. In an innovative collaboration leading into the pivotal 2024 elections, WABE has partnered with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution to launch AJC’s Politically Georgia, a live one-hour radio show that airs weekdays at 10 a.m. Hosted by the AJC‘s veteran political news team of Bill Nigut, Patricia Murphy, Tia Mitchell, and Greg Bluestein, the program provides in-depth reporting and analysis on politics and the upcoming elections.
WABE’s impact is rooted locally, but its value and authenticity resonate throughout the region and nation. The award-winning news team produces over 2,000 stories annually, with over 200 carried by national outlets like NPR and PBS Newshour. In addition, its influential lineup of local journalists like Rahul Bali, Sam Gringlas, and Lisa Rayam have national reach and are consistently featured on outlets such as CNN, Scripps News, and NPR. Rayam also frequently hosts political debates as an unbiased moderator.
“It’s important that voters have access to a vital discourse on politics, and we’re proud to provide a home for independent, fact-based coverage,” says Alex Helmick. “The 2024 elections are arguably the most important in history.
