Want Atlanta’s Sidewalks Fixed? There’s A Vote For That

In March, Atlanta citizens will decide whether to take on a large chunk of debt to repair its ailing roads and bridges.

The city proposed a $250 million infrastructure bond, called Renew Atlanta, and voters will decide whether to approve the bond in a referendum on March 17.

The city has already proposed more than 200 projects around town from feedback taken in a series of public meetings last year.

Michael Geisler, Atlanta’s chief operation officer, said jobs can shift based on priority.

“There’s going to be a lot of give and take on these projects,” Geisler said. “Safety, structure that’s needed are going to be pretty key.”

Bridges and ADA sidewalks are top on the list, he said.

Early voting for the bond will start March 2, City Councilwoman Mary Norwood said.

In the meantime, the city is holding a series of public meetings about the referendum.
