Census Day is April 1, 2020.

The results produce data about Americans and the economy.

The count is very important to Atlanta’s Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority. MARTA is the principal public transport operator in the Atlanta metropolitan area.

The riding and commuting service depends on census results for federal and city funding.

MARTA General Manager Jeff Parker spoke to WABE’s “Morning Edition” host Lisa Rayam about the census.

He says the organization is encouraging Atlanta residents to participate in the count.

MARTA contends that high census numbers could translate into improved bus and train service.
