Winter Storm Prompts Georgia State of Emergency

Gov. Nathan Deal issued a state of emergency to begin Wednesday at 2 p.m. In response to a winter storm warning declared for 50 counties in the northern portion of Georgia tomorrow, Gov. Deal ordered state government offices in the affected areas to close at noon Wednesday and declared a state of emergency for disaster preparedness starting at 2 p.m.

City of Atlanta government offices will be closed Wednesday due to winter weather. The city of Atlanta announced that government offices, including Parks and Recreation facilities and Municipal Court, will be closed on Wednesday. All essential and emergency personnel should report to work at their scheduled time on Wednesday. All non-essential employees should report at normal business hours on Thursday.

Fulton County government offices closed. Fulton County offices will be closed on Wednesday due to predicted winter weather. Mission essential personnel and all public safety agencies will report for duty. Fulton County Courthouse operations will also close. Jurors should not report for duty. They may call the number on their jury summons for more information.

Cobb County is under a winter storm warning. County staff are preparing for the arrival of up to several inches of snow between Wednesday morning and Thursday morning. Residents are encouraged to check their preparedness for winter weather. A good resource is Ready Georgia.
