Original post, 10:30 a.m.

Because of the winter weather, officials have announced the following closings and/or delayed openings for Tuesday, January 6.

The following schools are CLOSED for Monday: Adams Little Peoples’ Academy, Bridgeway Christian Academy, Butts County Schools, Calhoun City Schools, Cherokee County Schools, Coweta County Schools, Gainesville City Schools, Henry County Schools, Marietta City Schools, Paulding County Schools, Stephens County Schools, Towns County Schools and White County Schools.

All University of North Georgia campuses are delayed for three hours.

As more closings and updates occur, WABE will provide updates.

Update 10:20 a.m.

The Georgia Department of Transportation is reporting that winter weather conditions are mostly confined to the northwest Georgia area, with road crews treating isolated hazards such as ice.

GDOT warns that even though the precipitation has ended over most of the state, the falling temperatures mean that any areas with ice will stay icy throughout the day.  Crews will be looking for ice on the roads, but drivers should still be careful, watch for ice, and keep travel to a minimum if possible.

Update 12:00 p.m.

We have just received word from the Atlanta Public Schools that all APS schools will be closed Tuesday, January 7.  All scheduled events, including extracurricular events, will be rescheduled.

Update 12:20 p.m.

The National Weather Service office in Peachtree City has a wind chill advisory in effect for north Georgia, including Atlanta.  The advisory has been extended until 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 7.

In addition, a wind advisory remains in effect until midnight tonight. Winds are expected to be from the northwest at 15 to 20 m.p.h. with gusts up to 40 m.p.h. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, so caution is urged.

Update 1:30 p.m.

Cobb County schools will be closed tomorrow. All staff are to report to work at 10:00 a.m. The school system says all after-school activities are canceled. Participants in athletics should contact their coaches for information about practice.
