Update: Sinclair announced on Sept. 26 that it will bring “Jimmy Kimmel Live” back on the air effective that evening. The company said the decision to take it off the air was not due to government interaction or influence. “Free speech provides broadcasters with the right to exercise judgment as to the content on their local stations,” they said in a statement. “While we understand that not everyone will agree with our decisions about programming, it is simply inconsistent to champion free speech while demanding that broadcasters air specific content.” This decision affects WGXA in Macon. Nexstar followed up later that day, announcing that it too would bring Kimmel back on air that evening, saying that their decisions throughout the controversy were made “independent of any external influence from government agencies or individuals.” This affects WJBF in Augusta.
