A recent review of the Dekalb County Schools’ payroll revealed the district was paying some employees who no longer work there. The review found the district paid almost $50,000 to two former employees and five workers on leave. Dekalb Schools spokesman Walter Woods says the district is concerned.
“Every dollar counts,” Woods says, “Every taxpayer dollar counts. Every dollar should be driven toward student success in the classroom and the superintendent is committed to that.” And, he says, an investigation is under way.
“Legal Affairs has already begun looking into these cases and determining if there’s any number of funds that we need to recollect,” he says.
