Police Officers Across Nation Face Federal Charges For Involvement In Capitol Riots

Pro-Trump supporters breeched security and stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. An investigation underway will determine if any off-duty officers were involved in the attack.

Nearly 30 sworn police officers from a dozen departments attended the pro-Trump rally at the U.S. Capitol last week, and several stormed Capitol with rioters and are facing federal criminal charges as well as possible expulsion or other discipline.

The officers are from departments large and small: from a veteran officer in Houston, the nation’s 8th-largest department, to a sergeant in the small town of Rocky Mount, Va., as well as a group of Philadelphia transit officers.

Five people were killed in the riots, including Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick and Trump supporter Ashli Babbitt, who was shot by an officer when she attempted to breach a barricaded door inside the Capitol.
