The Atlanta Jewish Foundation, a part of the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta, had a record year for grants, distributing nearly $55 million to over a thousand organizations, including Grady Health Foundation, Boulder Crest Foundation and the Holocaust Survivors Support Fund.
On this edition of “Closer Look,” Jori Mendel, Chief Foundation Officer of Atlanta Jewish Foundation, discussed the significance of these donations, as well as the eagerness of donors in helping to provide financial assistance and awareness to a diverse group of organizations throughout metro Atlanta and elsewhere.
“A bulk of our money is with donor-advised funds. We work with them directly, or their professional wealth advisor, and we find out what they are interested in,” said Mendel. “You can’t go around this city and not notice affordable housing, the refugee crisis … we have all of these issues continually hitting us, and people are turning to us and saying, ‘maybe I didn’t give to these causes before, but help me get educated.'”
