The life of Tyler Perry is synonymous with the American Dream. From his humble beginnings marred by childhood poverty and abuse, he rose to become one of today’s most successful figures in the entertainment industry. He was first introduced to the world at large by his portrayal of the character Medea, the god-fearing, gun-toting grandma who gave spiritual and other advice packed with a hilarious punch.
His prolific body of work includes feature films, stage plays, television shows, as well as a New York Times bestseller. And the Atlanta area is proud to be home to the world-famous Tyler Perry Studios. An exhibition featuring the work and life of the American filmmaker, actor, playwright, and entrepreneur is on display now at the Harriet Tubman museum in Macon through February of 2025.
In this interview, Harold Young, executive director of the Harriet Tubman museum, speaks with “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes about the long-time-coming exhibit.
