WABE is proud to celebrate 70 years of being on the air. Over the years, the award-winning station has brought educational programming, insightful discussions and breaking news to a wide range of listeners in the Atlanta area.
WABE 90.1 FM signed on-the-air Sept. 13, 1948 and was Georgia’s first public radio station. Back then, WABE sat atop Atlanta’s old City Hall and was funded by the Fulton County Board of Education and the Atlanta Board of Education, which currently holds the member-supported station’s broadcast license.
