In the realm of things that deserve to be saved — endangered species, clean water — “The Saving of the Elite” may seem ridiculous. Though not to Joel Stein, the author of “In Defense of Elitism.”
His ironic take on our divided nation is not entirely smug, however. Along with hilarious observations, Stein learned some valuable lessons during his time in rural Texas researching the book.
Stein is not a man of the people. He is among the elite, a term he fully embraces. He joined “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes to discuss the book.
