Reuters reports the U.S. Justice Department cut around 370 grants, totaling more than $800 million in funding. A nonpartisan analysis by the Council on Criminal Justice estimates the cuts at around $500 million due to some of those grants being in the middle of a multi-year agreement.
The federal cuts are directly impacting programs under the Community Violence Intervention and Prevention initiative, part of the Biden Administration’s Department of Justice.
Leaders of CVI programs in Georgia are now trying to determine how to continue serving their respective communities.
