‘The Pied Picker’: Center For Puppetry Arts Puts A New Twist On An Old Tale

“The Pied Picker” will be performed virtually Sept. 4 to 6.

The tale of the Pied Piper has some new twists in a clever adaptation by David Stephens of All Hands Production.

The show, “The Pied Picker,” is performed live via Zoom at the Center for Puppetry Arts.

Stephens and Puppetry Arts executive director Beth Schiavo joined “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes to discuss the show.

In the show, Peter Picker travels to the town of Hamlin seeking fame and fortune as a banjo picker. However, he finds the town has been taken over by a hoard of silly roaches.

“The story also teaches the value of playing together and working together to make something better than what you started on your own,” Stephens says.

“The Pied Picker” ticket includes a downloadable PDF puppet packet and video tutorial so you can enjoy a do-it-yourself Create-A-Puppet Workshop and build your very own Radiant Roach marionette.

“The Pied Picker” airs Sept. 4 to 6.
