Local Political Strategists Analyze Georgia’s Senate Elections

Clark Atlanta University political strategist Tammy Greer, Ph.D., has followed Georgia’s Unites States Senate race closely.
Greer was a guest on WABE’s “Morning Edition” with host Lisa Rayam, who asked Greer her thoughts on voter trends this election.
Greer said the race results and trend numbers tell her it was more “about the candidates and not necessarily about the party. Because if it were about the party itself, then you would’ve had both candidates lock in step when it comes to the number of votes they received.”
Emory University political scientist Andra Gillespie, Ph.D., says the Republican’s election strategy ended up hurting Georgia’s Republican U.S. Senate candidates.
Gillespie shared her thoughts about the race with Rayam.
Gillespie says voters appear to have perceived Republican campaign ads as negative.
“I think at the end of the day, once we finally look at this in greater depth and use multiple variant models, that perception may have hurt the Republican candidates,” she said. “Particularly Kelly Loeffler.”
