Georgia state lawmakers introduced a bill on Friday to ban personal device use in high schools, following last year’s passage of a state law banning such use in elementary and middle schools.

Republican Georgia state Rep. Scott Hilton, who authored the new House Bill 1009, said he decided to extend the cell phone usage ban to high schools after receiving positive feedback on the ban for K-8 schools, which he also sponsored.

“The response we got back was overwhelming from teachers, administrators, and really more importantly, parents, who loved the idea and wanted to see us expand it to high school,” he said.
