DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A new principal is taking the helm of Sequoyah Middle School following a recent controversy over the alleged silencing of a teacher who discussed U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in a classroom.

New principal Lauren Pells is moving from her role at Dresden Elementary School to become the principal at Sequoyah, according to a Feb. 9 news release. The school has operated under two administrators, Melanie Pearch and Peggy Davis, since December.

Pells served as assistant principal for Sequoyah Middle School before the district hired her at Dresden Elementary in 2023.
