Atlanta Councilmember Kelsea Bond: ‘I’d really like to change the culture of city council’

Atlanta City Councilmember Kelsea Bond made history last month as the chamber’s first Democratic Socialist, building off momentum from years as a community activist.

The District 2 councilmember is known for supporting and organizing labor campaigns throughout the Atlanta area and campaigned on addressing housing affordability, increasing taxes on the wealthy, police reform and public transit expansion.

“I think the current administration and city council is out of step with what regular voters want to see,” Bond said. “Keeping those voices loud and amplifying them is part of my strategy to showing the rest of city council that these ideas I’m championing are actually popular.”
