DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office deputy is out of a job and facing charges after he was accused of misusing Flock Safety camera technology.
“Sgt. Kabiru Salawu was charged with felony violation of oath of office and misdemeanor misuse of license plate data,” a news release from the Sheriff’s Office said. “His employment with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office has been terminated.”
Sheriff Melody Maddox said the public has a right to expect integrity from law enforcement officials.
“The misuse of law enforcement technology or confidential information for any unauthorized purpose is a serious breach of the public’s trust and will not be tolerated,” Maddox said. “When misconduct is identified, we act swiftly, hold those responsible accountable and remain committed to the highest ethical standards.”
Salawu had worked for the Sheriff’s Office since 2009. He’s currently in jail, being held without bond.
