The 35th annual AIDS Walk Atlanta brought at least 3,000 people to tackle the route that winds through and around Piedmont Park.
The day culminated with a music festival, and Atlanta’s LGBTQ+ community and its allies raised roughly $1 million for HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment services.
WABE’s “Morning Edition” spoke with Imara Canady with the National AIDS Healthcare Foundation the day before the festivities, and in the wake of federal cuts by the Trump administration that jeopardize HIV/AIDS prevention and research efforts across the country.
