A new legacy of American abstract art is joining the treasures of Atlanta’s High Museum, thanks to Medford and Loraine Johnston. “Thinking Eye, Seeing Mind: The Medford and Loraine Johnston Collection” is an exhibition of works gifted to the museum that represents a focused examination of American abstract, minimalist, conceptual and expressionist art of the 20th century, with works from Sol LeWitt, Brice Marden, Ed Ruscha and more.

The collection is on view through May 25. “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes spoke with Michael Rooks, the High Museum’s Wieland Family Senior Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, via Riverside about these works.

“The show asks you to slow down and really spend time with a drawing. There are moments that are very human and sort of tender,” said Rooks.
