What happens when Broadway’s most familiar songs are performed in completely unexpected ways? The William Breman Jewish Heritage Museum brings that answer to its audiences this weekend when it hosts the return of “Broadway Sideways,” a concert that reimagines Broadway standards through performers who rarely see themselves in those roles. Voices of Note, a coalition of members of the Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus and the Atlanta Women’s Chorus, presents the show as an example of the creative partnerships that sustain Atlanta’s arts community.
Bringing ‘Broadway Sideways’ to the Breman
Jason Wynn, musical director of “Broadway Sideways,” said the show was designed from the beginning to reimagine who gets to sing Broadway’s most familiar songs.
“We wanted people to find themselves represented on that stage in ways that very likely have never been done before,” Wynn said. “In the famous words of Stephen Sondheim, ‘we’re not alone.’”
