Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens is rethinking his support for light rail on the Atlanta Beltline’s popular Eastside Trail in the near future.

At a meeting last week for MARTA’s board of directors, Dickens said planners should begin with light rail on the Southside Trail instead. Dickens previously supported light rail along the Beltline’s Eastside Trail, which starts at Piedmont Park and goes all the way to Reynoldstown.

Courtney English, the mayor’s chief policy officer and senior advisor, explained at the meeting that the priority around Beltline rail has changed.
