Atlanta native Monet Carter has been named one of five national Graduates of the Year by Penn Foster Group, a leading provider of online education. Carter was selected for the recognition based on her academic excellence, perseverance and character.
She joined WABE’s “All Things Considered” to discuss the significance of the honor following a challenging academic journey.
Carter said living with sickle cell disease meant frequent absences and limited support in traditional schools. After moving and facing mental health challenges, she turned to Penn Foster for the flexibility she needed to succeed.
