The City of Atlanta Department of Watershed Management issued a boil water advisory on Wednesday in parts of Fairburn and South Fulton.

The advisory follows a power outage at the Adamsville Pump Station that’s impacting 14 residents and 24 businesses.

According to DWM, a third-party contractor working in the area inadvertently struck a power line, causing a brief loss of power. Power has since been restored at the station, and department officials are monitoring operations and systems pressures.

The advisory will remain in place until DWM is cleared to lift it following water sampling protocols.

All residents and property owners in Fairburn and South Fulton who are experiencing water outages or low water pressure are being told to boil all water prior to use for drinking, cooking, preparing baby food, or brushing teeth. The water should be boiled for one minute past a rolling boil. Infants, the elderly and those with immune deficiencies are advised to be cautious.

Those in the boil water advisory area should only use tap water to wash hands, take showers or baths, and do laundry. DWM has advised those people not to use water from any appliance connected to water lines while the advisory is in place, including coffee makers, ice machines, water dispensers or soda dispensers.

People can check whether their address is affected by the boil water advisory by going to DWM’s public alerts page.
