A federal magistrate judge denied bond today to a man accused of threatening a mass shooting at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, saying that “what was averted could have been a horrific act.”

Billy Joe Cagle, 49, of Cartersville, Georgia, was escorted by law enforcement into the courtroom in a bright orange jumpsuit and handcuffs.

He faces state and federal charges, including attempted violence at an international airport, interstate communications containing threats and possessing a firearm as a felon, following his arrest on Oct. 20.
