Matt Bowman, the owner of Tradition Trees in Little Five Points, says Christmas trees grow about one foot a year and that there’s currently a shortage of trees taller than six feet.

“For a tree to get seven or eight feet tall, it usually takes about eight or nine years,” said Bowman, a guest on Monday’s edition of “Closer Look.”

Bowman further explained that the tree shortage is due to a lack of trees being planted when the Great Recession hit.

During the conversation, Bowman talked about several topics, including what his company is doing to avoid raising Christmas tree prices too high as inflation rises, caring for live trees and the pros and cons of purchasing a live tree over a plastic one.

“We are always getting fresh trees to Atlanta and we make a lot of effort to make sure our trees are well taken care of on the Christmas tree lot,” said Bowman
