In response to the current political climate, people across the nation are expected to come together later this month for an initiative focused on putting families first.

The initiative, called Families First: A 50-State Day of Peaceful Action, will take place on July 26. Its goal is to unite various organizations in opposition to President Donald Trump’s recently enacted tax and spending cuts. The event represents a broad coalition coming together to host a variety of local events and activities nationwide. Events are planned for Atlanta and Savannah, which will align with activations taking place across the country.

MoveOn is one of the many partners involved in the Families First coalition. Joel Payne, the chief communications officer for MoveOn, was a featured guest on “Closer Look.” He spoke with host Rose Scott about the upcoming event and shared why he feels it is important for communities to mobilize.
