Councilwoman Carmalitha L. Gumbs, who currently represents the City of South Fulton’s District 2, is now launching her bid to become the city’s leader, one of the largest in Fulton County.

Her campaign for mayor comes as incumbent Mayor Khalid Kamau faces backlash for unauthorized use of the city’s resources and for allegedly spending taxpayer funds on luxury travel and other expenses.

On Monday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Gumbs told show host Rose Scott that her relationship with Mayor Kamau is not strained or stained— but stressed that it’s time for a new narrative for the City of South Fulton. She further explained that she believes in a responsive government and explained why she’s advocating for quality economic development, jobs and more.
