A Crisis in Islam: Opera for the 21st Century Premieres Apr. 15

Timothy Brady's One-Act Opera, Edalat Square, Premieres at Emory University this Sunday

Edalat Square is a provocative new opera written by Emory College senior honors student R. Timothy Brady that looks at the circumstances surrounding the 2005 execution of Mahmoud Asgari (17) and Ayaz Marhoni (16) under Iranian law for “lavaat,” sex between two men. The premiere of “Edalat Square: An Opera in One Act” will take place April 15 at 4p.m. at Emory University's Performing Arts Studio, 1804 North Decatur Road. This one-time-only presentation is free and open to the public. Edalat Squarewill premiere on screen at the University of Toronto in early May, 2007. It will air on Sirius Satellite's OUTQ radio as well as a local radio station in Vancouver through the support of Public Radio Exchange.

Currently a senior majoring in music composition, R. Timothy Brady is a native of Atlanta, pursuing a career as a composer. He studies composition with professor John Anthony Lennon at Emory College of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. The music of Edalat Square is written by Brady. The lyrics are written by Luis R. Rodriguez, and libretto is by R. Timothy Brady and A.R. Madabushi.
