The Decatur City Commission, on Jan. 5, selected a new mayor and mayor pro tem for 2026. Tony Powers will serve as mayor and Lesa Fronk was elected mayor pro tem.
Decatur has a unique way of selecting the mayor. There are five members on the city commission, each elected to their district seat. At the beginning of each year, the commissioners select the mayor and the mayor pro tem.
Powers is the first Black man to serve as mayor and the first Black mayor since Elizabeth Wilson.
