The 2026 FIFA World Cup is fast approaching and the City of Decatur is getting in on the fun.

An influx of visitors are expected in Atlanta for the festivities and neighboring city Decatur is hosting Decatur WatchFest26. The aim of the 34-day festival is to bring more people to the city.

Decatur Mayor Patti Garrett says city officials want to foster a fun and welcoming environment where people can enjoy and watch the games. It will feature outdoor screenings, live music and more.

Garrett was a guest on Tuesday’s edition of “Closer Look.” She talked with show host Rose Scott about how the city is preparing for the festival, what festival-goers can expect and how the event will boost tourism and support small businesses.
