DeKalb County has dedicated $1.8 million to build a new entrance and amenities at Intrenchment Creek Park. The refurbished park will be between the site of Atlanta’s Planned Public Safety Training Center and the original entrance and trails DeKalb County traded in a controversial land swap with private real estate developer Blackhall Real Estate Phase II LLC.

DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond closed the park in March, citing safety concerns. Opponents of Atlanta’s so-called “Cop City” had gathered in the forested park that borders the training facility site for the last two years.

At an Employee Relations and Public Safety Committee meeting, county parks officials said they intend to finish the park entirely before re-opening it but have no timeline for its completion.
