If you live in DeKalb County, and you own a pit bull, you will no longer be in violation of the law. The DeKalb County Commission Tuesday unanimously voted to lift the county’s ban on pit bulls as household pets.
Commissioner Jeff Rader told WABE the ordinance, which was part of the county’s zoning laws, was nearly impossible to enforce, because there’s no specific definition of what makes a dog a pit bull. ”It is not a uniquely identifiable species or breed of dog,” Rader said. “So that it then becomes impossible to enforce that exclusion, and unfortunately give people a fales sense of regulatory control, and frustration.”
Rader said the county already has a vicious dog ordinance, which can be used against owners of any breed, if a dog attacks someone.
