DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office announced the death of an inmate.
The death occurred two days ago, on July 17. It was announced Sunday, July 19.
“DeKalb County Jail officials say 73-year-old John Parazzo was found unresponsive in his housing unit on July 17, 2026,” a news release said. “Although medical services were administered immediately by on-site jail medical personnel and Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Mr. Parazzo was pronounced deceased.”
The Sheriff’s Office said the death was apparently a “sudden and unanticipated medical emergency.” Jail officials do not suspect foul play and said no cause of death has been determined.
“We are committed to transparency and accountability in all aspects of our Sheriff’s Office operations,” Sheriff Melody Maddox said in the news release. “Our sincere condolences go out to Mr. Parazzo’s family.”
