Two public schools in DeKalb County will be named after two legendary politicians, including the current president.
The Barack H. Obama Elementary Magnet School of Technology will open its doors in January.
The school, which will be located on the 3100 block of Clifton Church Road in Decatur, will cost $23 million.
It will be the first public school in Georgia named after the 44th president.
“President Obama embodies the values of a strong family, hard work and education as the means of getting ahead,” said Superintendent Stephen Green, in a released statement. “These values are reflected in the DeKalb County School District and are the keys to college and career readiness.”
DeKalb County officials also said the John Robert Lewis Elementary School will temporarily be located on North Druid Hills Road, before moving to its permanent spot in Brookhaven.
“John Lewis is an American icon who has dedicated his life to the highest ethical standards and moral principles. Each day, our students, teachers, and staff will be reminded of his leadership and sacrifice and the role public education played in his achievements,” said Green.
This will be the first public school in the country to be named after the Georgia congressman.
