DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an inmate found unresponsive in his cell Sunday.
It is the first reported inmate death of 2026. Last year, the sheriff reported eight inmate deaths at the jail.
The Sheriff’s Office identified the inmate as Michael Gafa, 57, who had been in jail since September. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
