Easter spending up

Easter is just a few days away, but retailers are already celebrating. That’s because it’s estimated consumers will spend 11% more this year.

Retailers expect consumers will spend an average of $145 on Easter.

“If you’ve got a family of 4 or 5 or 6, that number is pretty small.”

Rick McAllister is president of the Georgia Retail Association.

“If you think about who spends money at Easter time, it’s a pretty broad base of folks and different kinds of money everything from Easter bonnets and clothing, to eggs and dyes and party stuff and flowers.”

McAllister says even home improvement products are bringing in more profit, and with Easter early this year, retailers are counting on consumers saving for the next big shopping day, Mother’s Day.
