A new study from Emory University shows that politics may be adding stress to women’s mental health in Georgia.
Researchers surveyed 148 women, aged 18 to 40, and found that political events were linked to increased anxiety, depression and overall stress.
Allen Siegler is a reporter for Healthbeat Atlanta who wrote about the research. He joined “All Things Considered” to talk about what he learned.
Siegler said the study highlights how the current political climate, including events like the Supreme Court’s decision on abortion, might impact mental health.
However, he did point out that the researchers noted limitations, such as the small sample size and focus on mostly liberal, educated women.
