Georgia Budget and Policy Institute (GBPI) recently released its 2024 State Policy Priorities.

Staci Fox, the president and CEO of GBPI, discussed it on Friday’s edition of “Closer Look.” Fox also gave an analysis of Governor Brian Kemp’s recent budget proposal.

In his State of the State address, the Republican governor proposed spending “an additional $5 billion in the current budget running through June. Beginning July 1, Kemp proposes increasing spending by $3.6 billion over this year’s original budget, including pay raises to more than 300,000 state employees and teachers.”

Fox talked with Scott about GPBI’s 2024 policy priorities, which include transparency and accountability in Georgia’s tax code, increasing access to affordable healthcare and closing the Medicaid coverage gap and ensuring equitable education for underserved communities.
