Georgia 400 Toll Station

For most of his professional life, Robert E. Smith has worked with or close to the Georgia 400 toll booths. In 1989, with the Georgia Department of Transportation, he helped construct the roadway for what is today Georgia 400. He says that the toll stations were built in an abandoned subdivision. He started working as manager for the Toll Plaza in 1993 when in that first year of operation they had about 58,000 cars pass through the booths each year. By 2005 the daily number of cars traveling through the toll booths reached about 112,000.
