Shari Jackson is what some would call a compassionate and selfless giver. For years she was a caregiver, helping her mother and aunt navigate their day-to-day lives and doctor’s appointments.

She says they always encouraged her to go back to school. Shortly after their passing in the fall of 2018, Jackson was inspired by her family’s words and enrolled in Georgia Gwinnett College. While pursuing her degree in human services, the mother of two faced several challenges, including balancing a job, parenting and navigating her own health issues.

Throughout it all, the non-traditional student persevered. Just days ahead of her graduation ceremony, Jackson was a guest on Thursday’s edition of “Closer Look.” She talked candidly with show host Rose Scott about her academic journey at GGC and why she feels it’s her life purpose to serve.
