Gun Makes It Onto Delta Flight; TSA Says Not A Result Of The Shutdown

A traveler reportedly carried a firearm through the Atlanta airport and onto a Delta flight, but the security lapse was not related to the government shutdown, according to the Transportation Security Administration.
CNN cited a TSA statement saying a traveler carrying a firearm boarded a Delta Air Lines Inc. (NYSE: DAL) flight from Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport to Tokyo Narita International Airport on Jan. 3. TSA said a normal amount of staffers were working that day and that standard procedures were not followed.
About 51,000 TSA agents are working without paying or on furlough during the ongoing partial government shutdown, and there have been reports that TSA agents have been calling in sick. The agency dismissed suggestions that the shutdown contributed to the security lapse, CNN reported.
