The Georgia House of Representatives voted 101 to 63 to approve Senate Bill 333, which supports the creation of the City of Mulberry in northeastern Gwinnett County. However, Gwinnett County Commission Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson says the commmission has not been partial to whether they need a 17th city.

“But we have been very vocal about the process in how cities are created and asking our legislators and lawmakers to do their due diligence before voters head to the polls so they know exactly what they’re getting with a new city,” Hendrickson said, sharing the commissioners’ opposition on Tuesday’s “Closer Look with Rose Scott.”

As of now, the measure sits on Gov. Brian Kemp’s desk awaiting his signature, but Hendrickson claims the decision did not go through the usual process to pursuing cityhood. If Kemp signs the bill, voters who live in the proposed area will be allowed to vote on whether the city should be created.

Scott recently interviewed House Majority Leader Chuck Efstration, who sponsored House Bill 869, which is a duplicate bill of Senate Bill 333.
