More than 60% of this year’s one-time state income tax rebates have been sent out, according to the Georgia Department of Revenue.

Individual tax filers are receiving $250, head of household filers $375 and married joint filers $500.

To get the money, you would have had to file your 2023 and 2024 taxes in Georgia, and your 2023 tax bill must be at least that amount.

If you filed electronically, the money will be deposited into the bank account you used. If you filed a paper return, then you will get a check in the mail.

This is the third one-time rebate under Gov. Brian Kemp.

The rebate legislation was passed unanimously by the Georgia House and Senate, with roughly $1.2 billion state budget surplus dollars being used to pay for this rebate.

Georgia Department of Revenue officials say that most rebates should be paid out by early August for those who filed by May 1.

The 2024 tax filing deadline was extended to May 1 in response to Hurricane Helene. This is different from your state income tax refund, which is based on your regularly filed state income tax return.
