Christmas is fast approaching.

And as you think about how you and your family will celebrate Christmas this year, you may be wondering how to save money and minimize waste.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, between Thanksgiving through New Year’s, Americans throw out 25 % more waste.

Holiday waste surge equals approximately 1 million extra tons of trash every year.

On Tuesday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Meagan Whitehead, the program and affiliate support manager at the Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation, discussed her foundation’s statewide Christmas tree recycling program Bring One for the Chipper and the importance of having a more sustainable holiday season.

“Oftentimes, fake trees end up in the landfill,” said Whitehead.

During the conversation, she talked about some other ways to have an eco-friendly holiday.
